Introducing Stone Barn

Reviews

Take a look at the reviews for our recently opened Stone Barn.

Stone Barn: “A superb treat to stay in this beautifully restored barn.”

“Wow, yet again! This place delivers every time. We arrived late at night to a warm Barn with music, cake and tea. This is an amazing place to stay, everything has been thought of in the Barn. There are stunning walks, lovely local pubs (our favourites are the Luttrell Arms in Dunster with its great atmosphere and food and The Old Ship Aground on Friday night for band night). Thank you again, we’ve had an amazing time and the hot tub is a real gem!”
The Cavanaghs, November 2019

“Another wonderful stay at Stone Barn – I never want to leave! Gorgeous décor and always top tier hospitality! This was just the break I needed, and I can’t wait to return with my new baby next time.”
Lydia, November 2019

“The Barn is really lovely, we loved the hot tub, especially on Friday when there was bell-ringing. The seaside was amazing, as was going to a seafood lunch at The Old Ship Aground! The walks are stunning around Minehead, we liked to coastal walk to Dunster. The Apple Tree Tea Room is great for a cream tea. Make sure you take a trip on the steam railway – it was really amazing!”
Andy, Angela, Katie and Kobi the dog, October 2019

“We came down for a long weekend with four under-five year olds! We had the best stay, the Stone Barn had everything we needed and was well-equipped for the children. We will definitely be back at some point in the future. Thanks for a fab weekend.”
The Garretts and the Millings, September 2019

“A couple of years ago we stayed at The Oval cottage in Dunster which was like stepping back in time to ‘oldie’ Tudor times for the decor and building, but with all modern comforts. We had an enjoyable stay there. So once again we’re staying with Exmoor Character Cottages. this time here in Stone Barn in the quietest, prettiest part of Minehead. We had a most relaxing stay in the spacious state-of-the-art converted barn. Everything was laid on to use when required, and we had a very good time. There’s a wonderful view of Minehead after climbing church steps to St. Michael’s Church. We toured most of the area including Tarr Steps, which is tucked away in Exmoor – and a nice oldie worlde pub there.”
Kathryn and co, September 2019

“We enjoyed our stay at the Stone Barn. The beds are very comfortable, and the mixture of old beams and modern fixtures and fittings works well. The kitchen is very well-equipped, and we loved the ‘hide and slide’ oven doors. The garden is lovely, and my other half enjoyed the hot tub. During our stay we visited some lovely places. We would recommend Dunster Castle, Lynton, Lynmouth and its short funicular railway. Minehead is a lovely to stay in. The two manuals at The Stone Barn are very helpful re. the garden, places to go, to eat and local services. Very comprehensive.”
The Mingays, August 2019

“Stone Barn is on the most beautiful road. The Barn itself is so homely and well thought-out. It’s a luxury to have an en-suite to each bedroom. It’s also so quiet and dark at night that you’ll find yourself sleeping so well and for so long. The hot tub was lovely for the cooler evenings and aching muscles. We all enjoyed our stay including two dogs who were welcomed with a big bowl of water and treats. Lucy, Paul and the team are doing a great job. It’s the best holiday let we’ve stayed in.”
The Darlings, August 2019

“Huge thank you for making our stay at the Stone Barn as easy and comfortable as possible. We found North Hill perfect for a quick stroll into town, yet far enough away to feel away from it all! The weather has been kind to us, and the Barn is so well-equipped that we’ve either lazed in the garden during the day or pitched up on the sandy Minehead beach for the day. We will recommend Minehead and especially Exmoor Character Cottages back home.”
The Fee Family, July 2019

“We have had a lovely week at Stone Barn. So peaceful. The Barn itself is very comfortable and of a very good standard. Lucy and Paul have been so helpful: thank you for making our holiday so enjoyable.”
Anne, Ed, Jack, Harry and Frankie the dog, July 2019

“Lovely cottage in a very quiet tranquil setting. The weather didn’t stop us enjoying afternoon tea in the garden. We were out everyday walking, geo-caching and into Dunster for our long-bow archery events. Thank you for another enjoyable week.”
Dave, Val and Andy, June 2019

“Just wanted to say thank you for the welcome touches and how much we’ve enjoyed our first visit to Minehead, staying at the beautiful, well-equipped Stone Barn. It’s in a lovely quiet location – yet near enough to wander into town. We recommend cream tea or a slice of cake at Lisa’s Vintage Chic and the Sunday Carvery at Stones, both are dog friendly. And a day trip on the steam railway! Thanks again, hopefully we will see you again soon!”
John, Alison and Ruby the dog, June 2019

“We have enjoyed staying in Stone Barn and loved North Hill, wandering around especially in the quiet of the evenings – even though it’s up hill! The Barn itself is beautiful, very well furnished and with everything you could need, especially in the kitchen. We know Exmoor well, and after a few years’ absence it was good revisiting familiar sites. To return to the hot tub was the icing on the cake! Thank you for such a lovely week.”
Sylvia, Bob and Laura, June 2019

“Lovely Barn with beautiful décor! We loved the comfy beds and the hot tub was used nearly every evening. We highly recommend the steam train, especially for young children, it was enjoyed by everyone. Dunster was by far our favourite place – yummy fudge from the Chocolate Shop, and a great cream tea at the tearoom next to the watermill. The castle itself was very interesting – even our five-year-old loved it. Also, we recommend the Wheelhouse restaurant in Minehead for dinner. Thank you for the lovely welcoming lemon drizzle cake, it was much appreciated after a long journey! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay in one of your beautiful properties again.”
Paula, Tom, Jo, Sam, Richard, Jessica and Bethany, May 2019

“Wonderful week at Stone Barn, what a lovely place to have a holiday. The hot tub is fantastic, was used many times and enjoyed by all. The house is all we could have hoped for and more, such comfortable beds and the welcoming tea tray with cake was much appreciated and a thoughtful gesture. Many thanks for making our holiday so enjoyable in your lovely property.”
Kevin, Lesley, Donald, Georgina and Lucy the dog, April 2019, April 2019

“A fabulous weekend in Stone Barn. Loved wandering around the town and local area during the day and spending early evenings in the hot tub. A very relaxing few days. We recommend visiting Dunster. Great cake on arrival too, thank you!”
Michele, Kim, Karen, Kyra and Aleyna, April 2019

“After 60 years of living in and knowing Higher Town in Minehead, it is always a joy to return to the area with our extended family to stay at Stone Barn and The Old Sweet Shop. It is wonderful to see the updates to the cottages (all for the good), and we have all LOVED staying here this Easter. There are never enough days to fit in all those walks and eateries! Thank you Lucy & Paul for all your expertise and thoughtfulness – so appreciated.
Michael & Judy Peters (Suffolk), Alexander & Emma (London) and Charlotte & co (Oxon), Easter 2019

“Wonderful weekend at Stone Barn, all the little touches make a stay here extra special. We really enjoyed the hot tub and the games were a nice touch. There are lovely beaches just a short drive away. This is a fab base for a walking holiday with your dog!”
The Davies party, April 2019

“We really enjoyed your place. The whole family (and the dog) thought it was beautiful – really tastefully decorated with lots of really lovely little touches. Weather always helps and it was glorious but thanks for all the extras like washing up items, some milk to start, the cake, the Easter eggs, toiletries etc. One of the best cottages like this we think we’ve ever stayed in and we may well be back. Only regret is we should have stayed longer but sadly work and exams call. Thank you again!”
The Bush family, April 2019

“A big thank you very much to Lucy, Paul and team for providing us with such a memorable week to relax and spend much-needed time catching up with family in an environment as special as this. The girls enjoyed everything, from the Disney bedroom to the hot tub. You have done wonders here and we really appreciate your hospitality. We will be back!”
Paul, Dee, Lydia, Ellie, April 2019

“What a wonderful barn! It’s in a stunning part of Minehead. It’s open plan, bright and very well arranged in every detail. Upstairs are the most fabulous views and living accommodation with all the comforts you need. Downstairs is spacious and both bedrooms have en-suites. Towels, bedding and beds are the best – and so comfy. Outside has a very well-kept garden and private corner for the hot tub. The parking was right by your bedroom which made packing so easy. And the location means we were able to walk everywhere. The hosts are there if you need them but leave you to enjoy your holiday. Lush cake, milk and plenty of helpful hints and tips for your stay. Going home now to book again!
The Hamblins, March 2019

“We absolutely loved staying here. Beautiful cottages, really well-equipped and decorated. The extra touches were very much appreciated (Cake, milk, games and DVDs). Thank you – we didn’t want to leave! PS Amelia says: I would love to come back!”
The Frost family, February 2019

“Beautiful Stone Barn located in the old town of Minehead. The owners Lucy and Paul have thought of everything!! It is furnished and decorated to a high specification. The welcome pack, which included tea, coffee, milk, sugar, water and cake was really appreciated after a long drive. The hot tub was relaxing in the evening, especially for star gazing. Stone Barn lived up to the photos and the real thing is even better. We will definitely be back again. Thank you again to Lucy and Paul for a memorable break.”
Tina, February 2019

“Thank you so much for a very relaxing stay at the beautifully restored Stone Barn. The décor and ambiance of Stone Barn are wonderful – such a warm, cosy place to be and we enjoyed a relaxing long weekend! The owners were very welcoming – their attention to detail and the needs of their guests was apparent from the extremely high specification of the barn. The hot tub was very welcome after a day walking! The surrounding area we discovered includes the medieval village of Dunster (highly recommend the Luttrell Arms) and Porlock Weir. We will definitely return.”
Annette and Mary, February 2019

“Thanks for all that is ‘Stone Barn’. We all just loved everything. Beautiful place with everything we needed. We will be back next year for sure. Thanks again, we had a blast!”
Jo, Paula, Steve, Darren, Jenna, Fred and Rufus, January 2019

“Thank you so much for such a warm welcome! Stone Barn definitely made my husband’s birthday! It was a present for a birthday/New Year celebration. We will definitely be back soon.”
Sarah, Adam, Tim, Kerry, Amelia, Esme and Ember the dog, New Year 2019

“What a wonderful place! The Barn is beautiful and full of character and fantastically equipped. We will never forget our Christmas Day here, looking up at the beautifully lit church on Christmas evening was magical. The kitchen is great, and we found everything we needed to cook a full Christmas dinner. We have had such a relaxing break. The barn is so comfortable and peaceful. We walked our dog Gemma along the beach every day, then she relaxed in the garden while we hopped into the hot tub – perfect! Thank you, we have truly made memories that we will never forget.”
Sam, Andrew, Joe, Ollie and Gemma the dog, Christmas 2018

“Fabulous cottage in a fantastic location!! So great to go walking straight from the door. Safe garden for our dog Mitch to roam – he loved that. We are going home relaxed – especially as all our Christmas shopping has been done in Minehead and Dunster. I am certain we’ll be back in 2019!”
Giles, Anne and Mitch, December 2018

“Our second visit and every bit as good as the first! Thanks for the little touches you add to make the stay that much more special! One recommendation from this visit is the Periwinkle Tea Rooms in Selworthy in a chocolate box cottage that gives a very warm welcome to walkers and dogs. We will be back to explore more of the area soon.”
Hilary, Richard and Millie the dog, November 2018

“Just wanted to say how much we loved staying at Stone Barn, you’ve done an amazing job. From the moment we walked through the garden gate it was immaculate. We’ve stayed at many holiday cottages, but nothing compares! We didn’t want to leave!”
Ken, Alex and the poodle, November 2018

“The Stone Barn has been our base during a ‘working holiday’ in Minehead. It has proved to be an oasis of calm and relaxation after a hard day’s work. All the fixtures and fittings are to a very high standard and a lot of thought has gone into it to equip it for every eventuality. A relax in the hot tub each evening was the icing on the cake! Looking forward to returning soon and spending more time relaxing, and less time working.”
Hilary, Richard and Millie the dog, November 2018

“Wow – thank you for the most perfect way to spend a long weekend. Complete luxury and dog-friendly too – not something you get very often! We had a really special meal at Reeves restaurant in Dunster – delicious food and impeccable service (and the dog was made very welcome!). We’re already planning our return visit, see you soon!”
Hannah, Guy and Noodles the dog, November 2018

“Well…Stone Barn you have been an absolute pleasure to stay in. Absolutely stunning! Beautiful décor that has given me ideas for home. David is planning on a hot tub as we could not get him out of it!! 😊 The views are stunning, and the church lit up is beautiful to see. We have visited many places, Porlock, Dunster, Lynton, Lynmouth to name a few…the view from the cliff top railway is quite breath-taking. We enjoyed the steam train journey from Minhead to Bishops Lydeard – we loved every minute. Thank you for our stay, we will be back next year to enjoy Minehead and Stone Barn all over again. Can’t wait to enjoy the hot tub lit up, so relaxing…”
Sam, David, Gail, David from Barry, Oct 2018

“What a gorgeous property, we felt so at home as soon as we arrived. Thank you for the lovely welcome. The house and garden are done to such a high standard, you have thought of everything. Loved the mix of old and news, felt like a boutique hotel, just bigger! Lovely walks – Horner Wood, Selworthy Beacon, and Porlock to Colbone to name our favourites. Enjoyed the food at ‘The Old Ship Aground’ and the Luttrell Arms in Dunster. The hot tub was a fab bonus, helped my aching bones after a long day walking. We have a fab week despite the storms! Thank you so much.”

Exmoor Character Cottages

We love Exmoor. It’s a beautiful and often overlooked part of the country. As a guest once wrote in a Visitors’ Book: “We asked ourselves why we had driven past Somerset for years when everything we wanted and more was here.” To one side is the sea and inviting beaches, to another purple heather humming with bees on the moor, plus magical ancient woods... READ MORE

“Another good stay in Minehead with wonderful walks through the woods and along the beach towards Dunster with our cocker spaniels Lola and Charlie. It’s our second stay at ‘Pilgrim’, so when we said, ‘We’ll be back’, we meant it! We’ve now also stayed twice at The Old Sweet Shop. They are both great dog and people friendly cottages. We will be back for sure!"

“We have been visiting Dunster for many years, but this is the first time we have stayed at The Oval. The building has so much character and charm and is fully equipped with everything you could need. The extra touches left for us on arrival for mum’s 70th birthday were lovely and gratefully received after a long journey. We have had a wonderful holiday. There is so much to see on the doorstep and in the surrounding area. We hope to be back again soon.”

“I think the first thing we all did when we entered the cottage was say “Wow!”. What a beautiful, relaxing and ultimately fantastic way to spend a week. The cottage is so well-equipped to be able to cook and clean when need, and it is so well-situated that everything you need is on your doorstep. And then there’s the hot tub! I think we spent every day in it, and we will all miss its relaxing jets and the beautiful views surrounding it. Overall, a truly uniquely lovely way to spend a week away from work and writing this, I already want to come back! Thank you so much to the team who couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely during our stay 😊.”

An incredibly crisp morning atop North Hill.

The views today were astounding - the twin Severn Bridges, Brent Knoll, Cardiff Bay and even Port Talbot seemed almost touchable.

The Exmoor Ponies were loving the dry weather too!
